Julien CABAY is Professor at Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and Associate Professor at Université de Liège (ULiège). At ULB, he holds the Chair in Intellectual Creation and Innovation Law and is director of JurisLab, an interdisciplinary research unit (Law, Engineering) of the Center for private law located in the FabLab ULB. At ULiège, he teaches in the LL.M. in EU Competition and IP Law and is a member of the Liège Competition and Innovation Institute (LCII).
Next to these main affiliations, Julien is also Invited Professor (Gastdocent) at KULeuven (Master of IP& ICT Law), Invited Professor at Centre d’études internationales de la propriété intellectuelle (CEIPI) of University of Strasbourg (University Diploma in AI & IP), Affiliated Researcher at Digital Law Center (DLC) of University of Geneva and member of the Belgian Council for Intellectual Property.
Julien is a renowned expert in the field of intellectual property, in particular copyright law and interdisciplinary approach to intellectual property. Currently, his core research interests are: Intellectual Property and Artificial Intelligence; Intellectual Property and Fundamental Rights; Intellectual Property and Open Science; Copyright and Contemporary Artistic Practices.
Julien holds a Ph.D. in Juridical Sciences (ULB, 2016), a LL.M. in IP Law (KULeuven, 2011) and a Master in Private Law (ULB, 2009). He has been PostDoc Resarcher (2016-2020) and Research Fellow (2010-2014) at Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research (F.R.S-FNRS), Global Policy Fellow at Instituto de Tecnologia e Sociedade do Rio de Janeiro (2018), Visiting Research Fellow at Columbia University in the City of New York (2012-2013) and Erasmus Student at Università degli Studi Roma Tre (2008-2009).
