Griet Jans joined the Belgian Competition Authority in 2012 as an economic advisor and deputy director of economic affairs. She has been actively involved in several non-simplified merger cases across a wide range of sectors, including telecommunications and media, retail, and services, as well as in various basic industries. She has also contributed to the development of the economic tools used by the BCA, the drafting of internal and external policy notes, and the development of internal processes.
Since 2018, she has served as the Secretary General of the Association of Competition Economics (ACE), a renowned non-profit network that brings together competition economists from the public sector, academia, and private industry. Since 2019, she has co-organized the annual congress of Competitio, a journal specializing in competition and competition law in Belgium. She is the author of several contributions on competition economics and policy.
Previously, she worked as a senior consultant for IDEA Consult (2006-2012), specifically within the “Competitiveness and Innovation” unit, and as a research assistant at the Center for Economic Studies at KU Leuven. There, she was part of the research team focused on monetary economics and conducted research on cartel detection under the supervision of Professor Patrick van Cayseele (2005-2006). She holds a Master of Science in Economics from KU Leuven, specializing in industrial organization and econometrics (2005).
